Louisiana Day!
We have been studying the state of Louisiana and to wrap up, the second grade got to celebrate with Louisiana Day! The students got to learn about some different types of swamp animals, and we even got to pet a few! They also got to make homemade jambalaya from scratch, as well as french bread shaped like a crawfish! Then the students performed various songs and dances for the parents in the amphitheater. We ended the day with a picnic, and got to eat the delicious jambalaya and bread.

A Visit from a Firefighter
One of our own second grade students has a brother who is a firefighter! When we read our Reading Street story Firefighters! we invited T.J. to come and speak to the students about his job and how much teamwork is involved. The students enjoyed asking lots of questions and we appreciate T.J. taking the time out of a grueling work schedule to visit with us.
